Frequently Asked Questions
How do I join a ride?
If a friend shares a ride invite link (e.g. https://ride-in-sync.com/r/XXXXXXXX), tap the link and the app will open the join screen. If you have the 8-character session code instead, open the app, tap Join a Ride, and enter the code. You can also scan the leader's QR code with the in-app scanner.
I tapped a ride link but the app didn't open.
A few things to check:
- Make sure Ride In Sync is installed. If not, the link will show a fallback page with the App Store / Play Store link.
- If you have the app installed but tapping just opens the website, try long-pressing the link and choosing "Open in Ride In Sync".
- On a fresh install, open the link a second time — iOS sometimes needs one extra try after first install.
The app says my session code is invalid.
Session codes are 8 characters and case-insensitive. If yours isn't working, double-check with the leader that the ride is still active — codes expire when the ride ends. The character set excludes ambiguous letters (no O/0 or I/1) to avoid confusion.
The app keeps asking me to verify my email.
After registering, we send a verification email. Check your spam folder. If it never arrived, log out and back in, then tap Resend on the verify-email screen. Verified email is required to join or create rides.
My location isn't showing up to other riders.
Most often this is a permissions issue:
- iOS: Settings → Ride In Sync → Location → make sure it's set to Always (not "While Using"). Background location is required to keep sharing while the app is in your pocket.
- Android: Settings → Apps → Ride In Sync → Permissions → Location → Allow all the time.
- Check that your phone's overall Location Services / GPS toggle is on.
- If you're indoors or in a tunnel, it may take a few seconds for the GPS to lock onto satellites.
The app is draining my battery.
Live GPS sharing is power-intensive — it's the nature of constantly streaming your position. To extend battery life:
- Lower your screen brightness while riding (the map doesn't need to be max-bright).
- Mount your phone in a way that keeps it cool — heat is the bigger drain than the app itself.
- End the ride session when you stop. Background location stops the moment the session ends.
- Plug into your bike or car's USB if you're on a long ride.
How do I end a ride?
The ride leader ends the ride from the map screen — tap the menu and choose End Ride. This stops location sharing for everyone in the session and shows the ride summary. If you're a rider (not the leader), you can leave the ride from the same menu without ending it for the rest of the group.
Can I see a history of my rides?
Yes. Open the app and go to the History tab. Tap any past ride to see distance, duration, top speed, average speed, and the riders who participated. From the detail view you can share a summary card with anyone.
Is my location private?
Yes. Your GPS coordinates are only visible to riders in your active session, and only while that session is running. We don't store your location history on our servers — coordinates are streamed in real time and discarded immediately. End the ride, sharing stops. See our Privacy Policy for details.
How do I delete my account?
Email us at teamrideinsync@gmail.com from the address tied to your account. We'll confirm and delete your account, ride memberships, and all associated data within 7 days.
I want to suggest a feature / report a bug.
We'd love to hear it. Email teamrideinsync@gmail.com with as much detail as you can. Real-world ride scenarios are especially helpful — they're how the app gets better.
